The Central Calidonian Calendar

The Celestial Cycle

This is the world's most used system of time-keeping, representing the cycle the Sun and Moon take through the sky and how that reflects onto the Seasons. The months are divided into two separate categories, Solis and Luna, Sun and Moon. From there it subdivides into Ortisium, Miridium, and Occasium, aka Rise, Peak/Middle, and Set. This leaves us with the 6 months, Solis-Ortisium, Solis-Miridium, Solis-Occasium, Luna-Ortisium, Luna-Miridium, and Luna-Occasium. At the peak of the Solis and Luna halves of the year lie the twin solstices, which are at midnight of the 30-31st Miridium. These are the points in the year at which Sun and Moon magic are at their strongest, and are known to mark both celebrations of the forces of magic which flow through the world and that of the strongest of rituals known to all Celestial magics are performed.

History

The Central Calidonian Calendar was created in the year 27 AR, relatively soon after the formation of Calidor, as they began to create such things as centralized measurement systems, including the Central Calidonian Calendar. This is among many different systems of organization offered to the common folk for usage, but none would latch on so much as this Calendar, becoming the most used system of time measurement in all of Calidor, even spreading into other regions like Ra'akar and The Verdant Isles.
