Jagged Peaks

Geography

The Jagged Peaks border Malwynn of the Jungles of Exmore. True to their name, they are some of the rockiest, sharpest mountains in Orim. Though the land does not possess the ashen quality of the Dead Mountains, the Jagged Peaks have proved highly effectual in guarding the dominion of the Tyches from the Ginharo Monstarous and other invading peoples. Since the defeat of the Ginharian Grand Chieftain Sergos-Um and his epic army of Ginharo, the Tyches have heavily fortified the Jagged Peaks, making a southern attack impossible by any standard.   However, by the Edict of Standards AE1855, the Royal Republic of Malwynn has banned all expansion south of the Jagged Peaks in fear of becoming overextended where unnecessary. Thus, many of the old Tyches settlements have fallen into disuse, most famous of those the Forgotten Fortress of Auga-Set, which bares the namesake of the ancient fortress builder.   The Jagged Peaks have three main passes: Whitewood Run, Winding Willow Way, and the Agaric Pass. The Whitewood Run, which is the westernmost pass, is characterized by the white “umarl” trees, and is therefore a very scenic path. Also scenic is Winding Willow Way, the center pass, which takes a long and convoluted – albeit necessary (as steep mountains block any other way) – path through the Jagged Peaks. Finally, easternmost is the Agaric Pass, a very linear pathway, preferred by merchants, caravans, and traders.   The three passes were used against the Ginharo in the First Vile War, where the numerical superiority of Sergos-Um was made useless by the narrow paths. Tyches, entrenched on unreachable mountains (for the Ginharo, at least) and hiding in ambush, destroyed almost the entirety of Sergos-Um’s 640,000-strong army, resulting in the murder of the Grand Chieftain and the Second Vile War, which ultimately ended in victory for the Tyches and the beginning of the Malwynnic Golden Age.
