Ministry Archivist

The lowest rank is archivists. Archivists are corrupt spellcasters that serve the Ministry by gathering, storing - and at times retrieving - information. This 'information' could be a ritual, spell, written works and so on. It isn't unheard of for the Ministry to send an archivist to gather the memory of how to make a new type of spell... with little care if the mage who owns the memory survives.   Archivists loathe the destruction of any information, as gathering and collecting information is their purpose within the Ministry. Even if ordered to collect and later destroy arcane knowledge, many archivists keep a secret copy out of a sense of completeness of the Ministry records.   This rank of the Ministry is also the most numerous. They are the most in contact with the general public, though they aren't spies. More often, they are the ones that manage the Freelancers.   Those archivists that show promise toward transformation skills or the more physical aspects of arcanum find their way into the ranks of the Transmogrifers or Inquisitors.   Archivists have some combat spells but also rely heavily on alchemy in a fight or to defend themselves. The more experienced archivists also have special abilities due to surviving arcane experiments that have warped their true form away from human, elven, etc. Away from combat, archivists also draw upon a battery of mental and illusionary spells.
