Oatman Crawler

The Oatman Crawler is the natural enemy of the Purgatory Sidewinder. It is generally 10 - 12 inches in diameter and about six inches in height. Their six legs and two pincer claws in the front allow them to walk up walls, trees, and rock formations. The muddy brown color allows it to easily blend into the terrain as it hunts for the various sidewinder species. Since it is an omnivore, it will eat cactus to provide water as well as nourishment in the dry season. Ranchers like to grab some crawlers each year to use the shells as dinner plates or soup bowls. The poison is a nice bribe for Miss Melinda's Alchemy and Branding though she may or may not accept it depending on the time of the year and the status of her supply cabinet.   The natural predator of the crawler is fire ants since they are small enough to slide between the plates and eat the crawlers from the inside out.
Much like the sidewinder, the crawler likes to find small and warm places to nap such as bedrolls, hay bales, corners of houses, etc.
