Volmhau

A Volmhau is a wide-edged blunt polearm characterized by multiple studded rivets and a sharpened spear-like tip primarily used by the Masi culture, the Aygieli have their own variant the Renba but it is not as widely used, they vary in size and dimensions the general size of most is around two-and-a-half arm lengths.

Evolution

What separates the Volmhau from the spear and other poleaxes was that the Volmhau was born out of a necessity to create a weapon that could function in a multitude of roles while also being cost-effective to the point where they could be produced en masse for the growing Masi Kingdom's needs. A combination of both previously said weapons the Volmhau was born during the tumultuous and warring state period of Paya at the time most were rudimentary with slabs of stones with tips of iron or bronze tied or doweled into fletched Lios wood it wasn't until the later Raya Period the modern version would emerge due to new refining and smithing techniques, the Volmhau, was able to become a more cultural and technological trend with the Masi culture being made from more stable and strong materials it was also in this period that the shafts of the Volmhau started to be endowed with small studs.

Combat & Techniques

During the creation and early history of the Volmhau during the Paya Period, there weren't many technique manuscripts for those to study and hone their skills, most accounts are that of Oral-Historians who passed down their stories and knowledge, during most of this period the Volmhau was used as a weapon for one-on-one combat and was an offensive weapon it wasn't until the Raya Period that the formation of more trained and formatted military tactics and training that the Volmhau would switch and become a purely defensive weapon, no longer for one-on-one combat it became a group weapon that was most effective when used in large amounts in in-depth formations to poke and prod enemies front lines. Though in the current awynn the Volmhau is still taught to royalty and upper class as a one-on-one weapon if not for mere traditions and ceremonial reasons.

Renba

Due to the stigma of long-arm weapons as being for cowards to the Aygieli, the Renba became a variant that almost became a bastardization of the Volmhau and its original creation idea, during the cultural diffusion that was seen in the Paya and Raya period the Aygieli would adopt it with disdain, but not without reason as Volmhau's are cheaper to produce en-masse. The design would be altered to create a variant that is shorter to the point that it would be able to be used in tandem with smaller daggers or bucklers, the head would be larger while the tip shorter, with more enlargened studs for bashing. Even with their very own variant the Aygieli still to this awynn prefer to use their own culturally significant weapons such as the Fuuruk.
A clash of stone and metal, the two approaches, poking and prodding for an opening, not wanting to be the first one to make a move for any mistake now would ultimately mean the death of the one who made it.
