Perdam
Perdam was a large settlement in the northwestern reaches of Xzon that was included in the Xzonic Rebellion, but which fell shortly thereafter to the violence associated with the rebellion. Due to a widespread perception at the time that Perdam both hated Phesunlay and the leaders of the rebellion, Perdam was levelled to the ground by warriors from both sides of the border with little regard for the potential use of such a settlement.
Demographics
Perdam was a large town of wealthy inhabitants prior to the Xzonic rebellion. Many in the town made their money by trading dangerous and frowned-upon goods, or through extorting others to acquire regularly needed goods at higher prices. Perdam also included a dense poor quarter, where those who could only afford to work for food and clothes spend their nights waiting for a wealthy patron to hire them on for one task or another.
Government
The government of Perdam was controlled by a hereditary council folks whose ancestors had, at one time, been elevated or elected to the council due to their good works, high prestige, or overall contributions to Perdam. However, the town was corrupted by its placement between the tinderbox of Xzon and the low regard of the Phesun courts, who operated from far away and who cared little for the rebellious province. The Perdam government was largely concerned with controlling the flows of goods, employing high taxes to increase their own wealth, and limiting travel over the main bridge between the Xzonic province and southern Phesunlay.
Industry & Trade
Perdam was largely a gateway town into the province of Xzon, and for a time it helped as a buffer between the baser instincts of the provincials (so far as the Phesun crown saw it) and the peaceful attitudes of other Phesun citizens. Perdam itself featured very little in the way of industry or processing, except to make minor modifications or additions to items to then charge extremely high fees.
The main trade in Perdam was thus the trade of whatever could be found in Xzon (gems, minerals, pelts, etc.) with Perdam (and through them, trading with the rest of the nation).
Infrastructure
While pieces of infrastructure, such as proper sewers and courtyards, were common throughout the rich quarters, much of the manufacturing noise of the town (largely mills, smithies, and furnaces) were crammed into and around the poor quarter.
Districts
The town of Perdam was roughly segregated into two uneven halfs: the elevated residences of the wealthy, and the squallor quarter of the poor. The main access to Perdam, the Perd Bridge, directly entered the wealthy quarter before passing through the poor section (at the centre of the city) and then passing out again to the south.
