Eris, Goddess of Deception (Eh-riss)

What is believed about Eris?

As for her personality: Eris is portrayed as tricksy, and often lazy in comparison to the other gods. She is also portrayed as the god who most enjoys interacting with people, although this is considered by many to be her tricking them. While some people consider Eris as ‘bad’ - due to her deceptive nature - many people defend the nuances of what that could mean. Although she is often prayed to for help committing or getting away with crime, many people actually consider her a protective figure, and will pray to her in order to hide from those they may need to (such as abusive relationships, or from coming raiders). She is also commonly addressed by actors, hoping to put in a good performance.

How is Eris portrayed?

Eris is portrayed as the youngest and shortest of the gods, with black hair and bright blue eyes. She is often depicted with a hiding fox.

Where is Eris portrayed?

Like every god, artwork of her can be seen within temples dedicated to her, as well as temples dedicated to The Nine. It is also common to see a sign of the fox on safe houses for people across Nalbon.

How do people pray to Eris?

Prayer to Eris is usually done while covering oneself with some sort of face covering: those with money or who are frequently praying to her invest in masks, covering the full face, shaped like that of a fox. Others simply use pieces of cloth, wrapped over the lower portion of the face (anything that falls between these two is also common). It is also expected that shoes be removed while praying to Eris, they must also be removed the whole time someone is inside a church dedicated to her (as with any churches dedicated to all the gods). It is also not uncommon for people to chew mint leaves at the end of prayer (this is done symbolically to help mask deceptive intentions).

Why do people pray to Eris?

For success in committing criminal acts, for a successful performance, to successfully deceive someone away from your hiding place.
