Hedgefort

Hedgefort is the fourth biggest city in Elphora. It is dedicated to Aife, Goddess of Conflict.
The city used to be the largest city in Elphora for a long time, in constant competition with Falconhurst. It was even the nation's capital for a period. However, in the Fourth Constonian War almost all of Hedgefort was burnt down. Over the last 60 years Hedgefort has been somewhat built back up, but it has massively failed to reclaim its old glory. Still home to the Elphoran infantry, the numbers are now pitiful in comparison to what they used to be, with most glory-chasing potential soldiers turning to the much stronger navy.
Since the city is still lying in disrepair crime has started to take over, with criminal organisations being out and open in the streets.
It is also a very dangerous place to live for non-Elphorans and non-humans. In particular dwarves, from Tearin, and anyone from Constonia. Often time the guar will not find the time to investigate crimes committed against these groups. They will throw coin at people who come with solutions to the crimes but will not bother with it themselves.
The fire during the Fourth Constonian War was no accident, and was intentionally set as an attack on the citizens of Hedgefort. Due to this, the people of Hedgefort are more prejudiced towards the people of Constonia than other Elphorans. This can be taken to extreme lengths and Constonians have been known to be assualted as soon as entering the city.
Hedgefort is a good place to be if you're a human trying to slip under the radar.
In the Hedgefort Fire the temple and monastery dedicated to Aife were luckily unharmed, being situated on the opposite side of town to where the fire was started. The temple provides simple weapon training, and the monastery having a focus on the proper combat-trained monks, over simply religious monks.
There are a couple of attractions that draw people to Hedgefort. The first is blood sport - Hedgefort is the only city (and constituency) where blood sport is still legal. People will come from all over Elphora to watch fights to the death between powerful opponents. The blood sport is very popular and it's generally a national consensus that it should be nationally decriminalised (although most people who believe this would also state that the rules should be tightened and that matches shouldn't have to be to the death). There is also a prison in Hedgefort which pitches inmates against each other in depth matches - this is less popular, with most people being morally against it. It still draws sizeable crowds.
The second biggest attraction that draws people to Hedgefort is it's lax attitude to drugs. It is very easy to access them there, and many people will head to Hedgefort to get high for a night without guard interruption.
On the 7-8th of Felan (month 8) Hedgefort hosts Aivlas (Blood Day) to celebrate Aife.
The city is run by Duke Sterveg Hawkweaver. He is known for his frequent balls and galas, and for dropping money intended on the city into his personal party fund
