Oscar, God of Natural Things

What is believed about Oscar?

Oscar is best described as an enigma. Folklore all seems to focus on different aspects of Oscar as a god - ‘chaotic’ being the most common descriptor. It is known that Oscar loves all living beings and has contempt for those who do not respect nature. Like the temples of Njord, temples of Oscar often have large gardens and space to pray outside, although they tend to favour overgrown foliage over fancy water displays.

How is Oscar portrayed?

He is portrayed as a large, elderly bearded man: his skin the colour of rocks and covered in moss. In artwork he is often shown as blending in with the world around him, making him difficult to find. Sometimes artwork will only portray the deer.

Where is Oscar portrayed?

Like every god, artwork of him can be seen within temples dedicated to him, as well as temples dedicated to The Nine. It's not common to find symbolism relating to Oscar around world like it is for the other gods, although you may occasionally find small carved wooden deer left in places of natural beauty as offerings. It is more common to see portrayals of Oscar in elven land.

How do people pray to Oscar?

Prayer to Oscar is usually conducted outside, if done inside it is usually done with access to mossy pebbles or handfuls of leaves - although it is essential that they are fallen leaves and not plucked from the trees. People will speak their prayers out loud while touching the palms of their hands to the ground (or pebbles/leaves if they’re inside).

Why do people pray to Oscar?

For protection or guidance through thick forests, for successful crop harvest, for the health of livestock, for the preservation of natural places.
