Statten

Statten is the fifth biggest city in Elphora and is dedicated to Moradin, God of Labour. It was the first city in Elphora to be built entirely of stone.   The city is home to a very large number of craft and tradesmen. In Elphora it is the biggest exporter of total number of goods. The city being dedicated to Moradin has naturally instilled a feeling of hardwork into the population. It is very common for parents of other cities to send their children to Statten to hunt down a craftsman that they could do an apprenticeship with. It is not easy to get these apprenticeships so Statten actually has a surprisingly large homeless population, as well as the largest orphanage in Elphora. This is partially due to parents sending their children here without backup plans and partially because of the dangerous labour that many undertake leaving children orphaned.   There is a significant mining population in Statten, seeing as there is a nearby iron mine.   Some of the best weaponry and armour ever forged came out of Statten. At some point it is believed that every noble family of Elphora has commissioned a weapon from one of the blacksmiths in the city.   Statten is home to the Weaponry Museum. The museum's biggest novelty is a line of swords, hung upside down, swinging from a beam. The line of swords can be played like a musical instrument, by giving them a tap with a small wooden mallet. Each sword produces a different note. At various times of day sword musicians stand by the sword instrument and play a tune for visitors. It pretty much always impresses.   Within the central part of the city lives one huge forge. It is used more as an attraction, however some of the best blacksmiths are hired by the city to give public demonstrations on how they would craft a weapon. They are required not to give any false information although they are allowed to protect their personal secrets.   You can also find the occasional demonstrations of weaponry as street performances. They will usually take weapons from different times in history and give demonstrations of how they were used. The weapons will always be blunted as to not actually injure those in the demonstrations, and sometimes they will bring out wooden versions of the weapons to allow the watching children to enter the ring and play around with them.    The city is generally quite weary of magic, favouring traditional natural arts over magical ones.   On 3-4th of Mordima Statten hosts Capallas (labour day) to celebrate Moradin.   The city is run by Duchess Kisa Stormsteel. She is currently trying to encourage the city to consider implementing magic in some places to make their lives easier.
