The War of Eleshire

The War of Eleshire was the shortest war in the history of Eltcarem. It was waged between the Great Dwarvish Empire and the small kingdom of Eleshire and lasted only a few minutes.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Great Dwarvish Empire had expanded its borders all the way to the small kingdom of Eleshire in the northeast. The Empire was very prosperous and had excellent trade networks, and Eleshire was a very poor kingdom. Eleshire's king, Jaunus IV, knew that becoming part of the empire would give Eleshire access to much better trade resources, but the people were proud and would riot if he handed their independence over to the dwarves. Jaunus sent a secret envoy to the dwarves saying that he wanted his kingdom to join the empire, but his people would only go along with it if they were taken by military force.

Deployment

In response to the message from Jaunus IV, the dwarvish emperor Dweorn Ironcrown II declared war on Eleshire and sent a massive military force to Eleshire, hoping that the army would be large enough to force a surrender without any bloodshed. On the morning of 18 Liquaris 20,000 dwarf soldiers, with 5,000 human mercenaries, marched on Eleshire. In response, King Jaunus III sent an army of 1,500 men.

The Engagement

Seeing that they were outnumbered more than 15 to 1 and poorly equipped compared to the attackers, Jaunus' generals consulted with the king about a surrender. They had no hope of victory against so large a force, and Jaunus quickly agreed that surrender was the best course of action. Without a single drop of blood being shed, Eleshire became part of the empire.

Outcome

Eleshire became part of the Great Dwarvish Empire and Jaunus remained as regent of the Eleshire province.

Aftermath

Eleshire became more prosperous as being an imperial province gave the greater access to trade routes
