Steichen (Steigh-ken)
Overview
Steichen is a small village built around an Oasis in the the Fissured Barrens. While Steichen is the official name of the village, most locals refer to is as Everpool. The spring is pulled from the earth by a small group of Naiads who live here due to it's closeness to the Feywild. A portal existed here once upon a time but has since been closed. Steichen is surrounded by cracked earth and salt flats, so they send lots of water for trade to the settlement on the main road to the south. Interesting enough, the water is always clear and pure, and most people say it's cool even after travelling long distances. The town's buildings are made out of red mud, and have flat wood roofing. Most buildings have lots of holes near the top for airflow, but some of the nicer buildings have glass pane windows. Steichen's main export is water, especially to Dysterten and Starteich. That said, some from Urungal and Oromond import most of their household drinking water.Layout
The Everpool: The Everpool is a deep, clear blue pool that is cool and perfectly good for drinking. Headman's house: Leon Hefler is the "Headman" for Steichen and the only governmental power within the village. Technically his title is Magistrate and he has 15 Hammerwardens under his command, as well as access to the garrison of Justicars in Starteich should he need it. His home is spacious and sits with the Gaulfell mountains in the background. The front has patches of desert grass, bushes, and fruit trees and the whole house is grey-white timber with a white stone base. Unlike the rest of the village, the roof has a shallow peak. Caravan Office: Jonas Fynn is the caravan leader who organizes water caravans and gets most of the pay upon those who return. He's business like and a bit brusque. Camel and mule Stable: Jonas Fynn also owns the stable, and rents out mounts to travelers is he has spare and thinks they will come back. Halfway House: Herschell Robinson Is the sole proprietor of the Halfway House in town, as it is a halfway journey from Starteich and back. He has a wife and three lovely daughters, and is kind to travelers.
