Oromond (Or-Eh-Mond)

Overview:

Oromond is a relatively new city within the Ascendancy, being 80 years old.   It's population exploded as it lay in the central trade route West, and most farmers bring their stock here so that it can be bought and distributed throughout the country. Oromond became a place of refined culture and a bastion of civilization throughout Western Qezun, and after the secession of the Northern part of the Ascendancy Oromond was second only to Urungal. The city flaunts little opulence in its architecture, but is harsh and unyielding. This was due to the desire to defend against the great dragon; Masiod, The Scourge.   The City as a whole is divided into two separate wards. The Ward within the walls is simply referred to as Old Oromond. This was the original City, before the populace spilled outside the gates. The outer ward is called Thrul Circle, but is lovingly referred to as Muck Circle by those who reside within Old Oromond.

Layout:

Thrul Circle (Muck Circle)

Thrul Circle, or "Muck Circle" is the outflow of populace from within the walls of Oromond. The socioeconomic status is significantly lower outside the walls, however there are plenty of nicer establishments to be found here. Most farmers sell in the Muck Ward Market, as Old Oromond has become more residential and fine shops as well as temples and governmental buildings.
Inns -   The Sacred Tankard Inn: Ran by an grizzled middle aged man name Zo Boknon, the Sacred Tankard is one of the nice Inns that resides within Thrul Circle. Close by to a blacksmith as well as one of the market squares, it boasts proximity to some of the few amenities within the circle.   Broken Tusk Pub: One of the seedier bars, the Broken Tusk is run by a Half Elf woman named Sara Evenlight. There are a few rooms downstairs, and tavern brawls are a regular. Hired muscle is always present, and fight nights semi common occurrences. There is also an entrance to The Pardoning's tunnels below the Broken Tusk. It starts as an old mineshaft before turning into a deliberately carved tunnel.   The Magic Lantern Bar and Hostel - Owned by a Goliath, this building clearly wasn't built by them. Galok Stonefinder bought it several years back, and is trying to recover the reputation of the inn. There have been multiple improvements, including good food, choice beers, a stable and stable keep, and complimentary coffee in the mornings.   Blackmsmith - Clangor and Armor: "Wittily" named by the owner, Clangor and Armor is the only smithy in Thrul Circle. Ansel Wymer is the smith here, and he provides mainly horseshoes and wagon wheels, with repair work supplementing income. He does have a few pieces of "choice work" that will be serviceable in battle, if not pretty.   Cobbler - Stonecobble's Shoes: Owned by the spry redheaded Dwarf Beric Stonecobble, this quaint watt and dauble shop sits close to the wall, and across the street from the only tailor. Beric will try and sell you dancing clogs made of local wood, and assert that it is a great way to attract ladies.   Tailor - Alterations: A simple name for a simple shop, Alterations is owned and operated by a gnome named Eslmeralda. Everyone who needs garments in Thrul Circle either makes them, or buys them here. Esmerelda is elderly and kind, and inquires with every customer if they have any nice silks, wools, cottons or other materials she could buy. Her passion is making fine garments, however it's hard to get good materials at a decent price within the Muck Circle.   Vegetable Carts -   Various carts with fresh veggies and grains can be found in the various trade squares.   Butcher -   Baker -   Underground Fighting Rings -   Fights can commonly be found in an alley behind the Broken Tusk Pub, and the city guards are paid off to let them happen unimpeded.   The Pardoning's Safehouse -   The Pardoning Operates throughout the city by a network of tunnels, including Sewers, Mining, Crypts, and tunnels they dug themselves. The Pardoning's Safehouse is a vaulted and heavily supported chamber about 20 feet directly below a portion of the wall between Old Oromond and Thrul Circle. This gives them equal access to both sides of the city. There's one big room for drinking, carousing, gambling, fighting, and the like. There are also two big storerooms on either side of the wall. Adjoining one end of the wall is a staircase down to Mochadis' apartments. The entryway is a parlor for drinking and planning jobs. Mochadis has an office, bedroom and dining chamber connected to the parlor.   The main room houses many colorful individuals:
  • Tome of Secrets - Tome of Secrets is a Tabaxi gentleman of ill repute. Tome has been in the doghouse with Mochadis as of late, and has been relegated to cleaning, stacking boxes, and managing inventory. Tome has Blue-grey fur, and liquid gold eyes. He is missing one of his ears, and his front fangs can be seen peeking out of his mouth. Tome dresses in simple black garb of tight fit, with studded leather underneath. He has several small throwing knives strapped to both of his leather vambraces and what looks to be a light crossbow peeking out from his cloak.
  • Phip - Phip is tall with a sun baked complexion, bald and missing more than a few teeth. He's dumb as bricks, best friends with Horvir, and does simple work for Mochadis.
  • Horvir - Horvir is short, fat and has a slight overbite. He has long thinning, yet curly hair which he keeps slicked back. He tries to keep up a respectable appearance, but can’t seem to keep the food and drink off of his clothes.
  • Calder - One of the primary smugglers for the Pardoning, Calder is a handsome man of average height. He has strawberry blonde hair tied in a messy bun, and a pointed goatee/mustache combo. He wears deep blue musketeer's cloak that comes down in the front as well as splitting at the shoulders and draping over both arms. He wears white cavalry gloves and a white shirt. At his side is a glistening dagger and upon his back a long sword of the flamberge style.
  • Klorg - One of two Hobgoblins in the Safehouse, Klorg is hired muscle.
  • Uldren - One of two Hobgoblins in the Safehouse, Uldren is hired muscle.
  • Tom - Tom is the bartender. He is lean, gaunt, and charming in a creepy way.
  • Mary - Mary loves to play chess in the main room. She's a poor loser and a sore winner. She's always playing with Lew, and loves to bet. No one knows what she does for Mochadis.
  • Lew - Lew plays alot of chess with Mary. He also runs the contact network for Stougheller, the largest Pardoning operation.
Separate from the pardoning rabble, there are two individuals who can usually be found in a secluded corner. Called "The Twins, these bloodthirsty women are contracted by a shadowy employer, and work directly with Mochadis to smuggle unopened crates.

Old Oromond

Original planned city of Oromond, and center for culture on the Southern Half of Qezun.

Ducal District

Aldar Citadel -
Set on a hill on the Eastern side of Old Oromond, Aldar Citadel is an imposing fortress made of grey-white basalt. It boasts eight towers interspersed throughout her curtain walls. The back of the Citadel curtain wall actually runs parallel to the outer city wall, doubling the thickness. The keep itself is not opulent in its architecture, but harsh and unyielding. There is not architectural notching or gargoyles, no stained glass. The Citadel was built in utilitarian fashion, it's keep full of murder holes, the roof boasting plenty of merlons, and crenels between for archers to shoot at attackers. Historically this Citadel was built to defend against dragon attacks, as an Ancient one lives in the area. However, the beast rarely raids the city or surrounding villages, instead preferring to pilfer from the Goliath to the south. This is the seat of power for the Duke of Oromond.   Morren Complex -   Existing within the curtain wall of Aldar Citadel, the Complex houses all guards within Old Oromond, as well as stables, kitchens, larders, a smithy, fletcher, and the apartments for a few high officers.   Old Oromond Dungeons -   Below the Morren Complex sits the dungeons for Old Oromond. It is mostly full of petty criminals paying off their time as indentured servants during the day, but some are murderers, traitors, and apostates to the Church of the Tetrad.

Temple District

Church of the Tetrad -   The Church of the Tetrad is a building with four wings extending outward, like a plus sign. It's roofs are heavily peaked and the central roof flat, connecting to the other four and then angling down to meet their base. The stone is pale grey and the roof panels made of corroded copper. Each wing is dedicated to a god of the Tetrad, with the core being dedicated to the whole of them.   Basilica of the Storm -   A massive circular building, the Basilica is one of only a few buildings to show a modicum of adornment. This is a temple dedicated to Kord, the Stormlord and patron god of Oromond. A huge bronze dome serves as the roof, with the outer walls made up of columns. The inner wall is solid and contains the Temple. The building is made of of a dark stone that must have been imported from further South, perhaps the tip of Qezun. There are four windows facing the cardinal directions, as well as four bronze doorways. Within the Temple, there is yet another wall that houses the priestly apartments and their living accommodations. Surrounding the central module are a plethora dark oak pews, statues and altars of the Stormlord, prayer acloves, and tithe recepticals. On the southern side of the central module, an inlet intrudes, with a platform. There is a lectern upon it, and pews arranged in front for times of prayer and worship to the Stormlord, Kord.
Bath House -   Unamed is the bathhouse in the temple district, boasting four large pools full of steamed water. An elvish man can be approached at the front desk to buy time in the baths.   Library -   Archon Conservatory is a sprawling domed building of redish-pink granite with a golden dome. They have a great many tomes to choose from, and a private collection on the mythologies and lore behind Bahamut, including ancient scriptures. Still owned by the L'angleys, it would be a sizable income asset if admittance was not free. With it's upkeep, the library is a financial liability for the L'angleys as it is now.

Trade District

Merchant's Guild -   The Platinum Dominion is the guild through which many merchants in the area are associated. The guild has many benefits to it, included discounts of raw materials through guild approved providers, a prestigious reputation, and connections. In return guild merchants send a percentage of their profits to the guild.   The building is a two-story square made of tan stone, with a peaked wood shingle roof. It boasts several wood-paned windows and a balcony on the second floor.   Blacksmiths -   Hammer and Steel: Hammer and Steel is owned and operated by an elderly gnomish man named Zilbis Wernabol. His steel is the best in the region, and the prettiest. Zilbis specializes in plate armor, half plate, and studded gambesons. His weaponry and other armor work are still flawless, but his specialties are extra beautiful and he can even make plus one versions if you have the coin.   Kord's Blade: This is the other smith within Old Oromond. Kord's Blade is ran by a quite religious human man named Taruq. He is the traditional blacksmith in every sense, boasting massive arms, thick chest and thicker chest hair, and a massive black beard. Taruq has piercing blue eyes and smile wrinkles at the corner of his eyes and his mouth. He may be gruff at first, but opens up and enjoys speaking with the party.   Building Supply and General Goods Shop -   Betrand's Building and General Goods: Named after the owner's father, this quaint shop sits on the outskirts of the district. This is partially due to cheaper taxes, and partially to the amount of space needed. The store is the primary place where people buy lumber, stone, mud mixtures, thatch, stone mortar, and other building materials. It also acts as a general store with tools, adventuring gear, and other goods. The best part is that the owner, Kiernan, loves and cares for many plants that are for sale. Kiernan is a strong looking woman with tan skin, sandy hair, and hazel eyes. She's kind, warm, and tough when it comes to negotiating.   Cobblers -   Leatherbound - Ran by an enterprising Half-Elf Gentlman.   Haberdashery -   Kelda's Haberdashery:   Butcher -   Baker -   Cartographer -   Carv's Maps and Parchments: A simple store that sells some maps, all sorts of parchments, inks and takes commissions on specific maps, stationary and seals.   Beer and Spirits Shop -   Cattail Alehouse is a two story classic watt-and-dauble building in the Trade District. They brew mostly golden ales from the wheat that is readily available in the surrounding area. They also have a special Whiskey they distill called Copperpot Whiskey.   Bookshops -   Roland's Collection of Tomes:   Magic Shops -   The Mute Banshee is a shop ran by a tiefling woman named Mercia. The shop is small, and so is her clientele due to her infernal heritage and the stigma it carries. She is kind but withholding, and does not enjoy when people haggle.   Illuminations is a larger shop ran by a Air Genasi named Breeze. He is quite breezy, charming, and flirty.   Inns -   The Lucky Bison Bar:   The Wyvern's Tail:   The Oromond Corner Club: This inn sits within Cattail Alehouse, occupying the back right corner and utilizing two stories as well as the space under the rafters.
