Illward

The Illtir are everywhere lass, and where you least expect them. This was my mother's before mine, and her mother's before it was hers. Not sure how far back it goes in the family, but this amulet has done much to protect us.
— Mother passing her Illward to her daughter.
During the years following the war between Surtym and the primordials the gods of Elturia began to coalesce as its people established themselves, finding out who they were outside of conflict. As the Illtir grew in prominence and influence, families began to create small wooden amulets to wear and ward off the evil deities. Nowadays, several centuries later, people do not usually create their own, using them as heirlooms within the family. Each family's Illward will be unique to them, with family crests, cultural symbols, or depictions of the god that family most venerates.

Ward Against Evil

These amulets have taken on a nearly mystical air. It is believed that they help protect the wearer and their family from the evil intentions of the Illtir. While most of the amulets are merely that, there have been some exceptions. The people of Frarhir claim that core memories are stored within their amulets, and in great times of need they can look to their Illward to see the memory of an ancestor that will help them. The people of Fot Sterkha have miniscule flecs of Kradore in some of their Illwards that helps repel Lycans since they hate the smell. Cultures all around Elturia claim their Illwards are special in some way or another.   Sanctified Tradition There are times when a families Illward is lost, due to battle, tragedy, or simple carelessness. In such cases, families will try to recreate the amulet to the best of their ability and take it to the local priest in order to sanctify and bless the new ward.

It is interesting to see that different cultures have different takes (and uses) on the amulet, it is a good way of what "protection" means to each one. I also find lovely and warm that the Illwards have a link to ancestors.

Thanks a bunch! I want to play with the idea that there is a certain magical power to things that have intention poured into them over long periods of time, especially if it is the same intention or feeling from many different people.
