Wolf Guard

The legendary Arkine that guard the Queen.

The Wolf Guard were the first, and presumably only, Arkine to walk the land of Elturia. In the middle of the first Queen's reign, a tribe of Werewolves managed to break in from the Wilderlands and they ravaged the city of Aldhon for months. The Queen sought help from the druids of the Whispering Wood with the ongoing threat. The soft spoken druids answered the Queen's call and sent their Arch Druid to help. They ensnared the group of 13 powerful werewolves and called upon the wolf spirits of Lupre and Galnir to tame the beast within these individuals.

Loyalty & Honor

For bringing them back to their senses and giving them new life, these new Arkine pledged themselves to the throne of Aldhon. They have thwarted countless assissination attempts and turned the tide of many battles. The ritual that these Arkine had gone through allowed them to keep the keen senses of the wolf with the mental capabilities of a humanoid, making them dangerous on the battle field. The ritual also imparted supernatural powers to members of the Wolf Guard.
A few of the members seem to have the ability to walk in the world of dreams, acting as scouts and spies for the queen. While Queen Elturandis II and her mother utilized this ability to their advantage for years, tragedy struck the last time the chosen had walked the world of dreams. One of the Wolf Guard encountered something in the dream that attacked them, killing them in the material world as well. Since this, the Queen has forbidden any of the Wolf Guard to enter the dream world, since she cannot afford to lose any of them.

Venerable

The Wolf Guard has served faithfully for over 60 years, and their skills have only been sharpened with age. However, the Queen grows worried for her dear friends and body guards. She sees their age in their eyes and she wonders how much longer they have left to live. Queen Elturandis II, now actively seeks a way to either lengthen the life of her guard, or find a way to create more Arkine. They have only managed to have one pup amongst the Guard. While he shows promise, one new Arkine cannot replace the entire Wolf Guard.

Composition

Manpower

The Wolf Guard includes a group of 13 elite warriors, that boast an unparalleled prowess. They have not yet been bested in close quarters combat. Many say that each is worth fifty men alone, but together they are worth a thousand.

Weaponry

While the Wolf Guard are all experts at hand to hand combat, each of them specialize in a specific fighting style. Some prefer lighter armor with short swords that allows them to move quickly, while others are clad in full plate carrying tower shields and glaives, and some yet have innate skill with divine or primal magics to augment their martial prowess.

Structure

As a unit they answer directly to Axethane Hrongir, the royal consort of the Queen. He is the only stonekin in recent times who has shown the prowess to stand toe to toe with one of the Wolf Guard.

I'm sorry they're aging. I hope the queen finds a way to continue her guard.

Thanks for reading! I am considering whether to leave this one open to the players of my game to figure out or to resolve it myself. Probably leaning to the former, even though I really love them!
