Xanperite (zan-per-ite)

Xanperite is a golden-yellow crystal that is abundant in Echaea and some regions on the continent of Etis. It is an energy storing crystal, similar to Eidonite in structure but incapable of storing arcane energy.   Xanperite is colloquially called Hypera’s Tears in Echaea and Sunquartz in the Han Alliance.   Xanperite is a relatively cheap commodity, but it is still not a common source of power in most parts of Elyria. It is used as a power source in practically every household in Echaea and Cyrene, and in some industries in the Han Territories.   Due to its ability to store solar energy, Xanperite is often used as a source of light and heat. The larger the crystal, the more energy it can store up, but this energy decays over time if the stone is kept in low light conditions for long periods of time. Hence many Echaeans have the crystal mounted to the roofs of their homes.   Tiny Xanperite beads are also often sold in markets in Echaea and the Han Territories as recharable heating elements that can replace coal. These beads, often sold in the form of 1 by 1 inch cubes, can be charged in the sun for about an hour or so and then used to cook or heat food.   Travellers and adventurers can actually purchase a set of 6 and it can last them an entire journey in place of a flint and firewood. Xanperite cubes are usually only sold in the Han Territories, however, as efforts to market these crystals outside of the three kingdoms have been met with little success.   Xanperite itself requires a machine or some kind of energy transfer mechanism in order to effectively work and syphon the stored energy to be used elsewhere. Hence it is popular in Echaea for home use and the Han Territories in more industrial settings. This usually also involves setting up a circuit of copper wires or even glass tubes so this can be quite the confusing process for many outside of these regions.
