Elysium

Elysium is the digital universe that all humanity is plugged into. While their bodies are kept in stasis and cared for by drones, their minds are connected to the massive computer system that houses an entire digital world for humanity to inhabit and manipulate at their will. Elysium is an entire universe made of fiberoptic cables, vacuum cooled supercomputer systems, and thousands of zetabytes worth of potential memory storage. Its inhabitants are connected to it from before they are even born, and retain that connection for a brief time even after they die, they perceive Elysium as a universe similar to our own in many ways, but not bound by the same physical laws, and alterable at a whim given the right permissions from its rulers, the Admins.   Elysium is the transhumanist's ultimate dream, a place where computers and human minds have become one, and a literal universe of possibilities await.

Geography

The terrain of Elysium is created by its inhabitants, and can be anything they have the desire and the knowledge to model. Some parts of Elysium are made to resemble the Earth of long ago with simulated physics and sensations, other parts are shaped according to pure abstraction where gravity means nothing and Euclidean geometry may as well be a myth, and still others are blank expanses of computerized space, populated only temporally by the digital conjurations of whoever is there.   If someone can imagine a space of any sort and size, it can be built somewhere within Elysium, provided the creator has the appropriate skills and permissions.   Fixed locations are equally as popular as free form space, but locations are not usually fixed in relation to each other. Where a physical world might constrain a family's home to being exactly 6 miles away from their workplace, in Elysium, there is no such limitation. People can travel between fixed locations with a mere thought, but it's not uncommon to go exploring the digital landscape to see what they might find.

Fauna & Flora

Humans and (debatably) The Generated are the only inhabitants of Elysium that can be said to be life forms, all other simulations of life are purely creations of polygons and sound design and programming, made to simulate life where none actually exists. But as with the terrain of Elysium, any sort of life imaginable exists somewhere and has been created by someone. A popular location for younger people is a fantasy kingdom with dragons and trolls and elves and such, the simulation of ancient Earth has done very well in replicating the life that existed there in many different eras of the planet's evolution, and there are often competitions for who can create the most bizarre or creative or beautiful creature or plant or other life form.
