Elysium

1050 SE, Year of the Winged Serpent, Ninth of Octra

Created by

A world fractured beyond repair and destined for a cold death. Those who inhabit this world face daily struggles of survival and the only hope they cling onto is the last remnants of civilization. In the wake of this desolate state, these pockets of civilization in the form of city-states, squabble over the last remaining resources to feed their populations, increase their influence, and continue their last stretch of life.   Elysium itself is the most fertile land in discovered in these dying times. It is home to countless tribes and settlements, many different species and fauna, and generally is considered a paradise in contrast to the cold and dead environments to the north. Based on observations, it is the last remaining region known to have diverse life and a stable ecosystem.   Despite the paradise of Elysium, the city-states of the region would rather kill and control these resources than to share and rebuild together. These petty squabbles are based on traditions and hereditary conflicts reaching as far back as when the settlements were first established. It is to this degree that peace may never come, and the blossoming region may yet turn into a desolate wasteland like many others before it. Even as helpless as the world is, politics still seem to find its way into human society regardless of the situation.   Though there are half-dozen cities and a large number of settlements in between, the two most powerful city-states, both economically and militarily, are Solaria and Valkyr. The two cities and their people have been locked in age-long conflicts, rivalries, and disputes commonly referred to as the Elysium Wars.   The state of humanity has regressed to a medieval-esque condition, with many settlements establishing feudal systems while the city-states operate more similarily to the city-states of classical antiquity. Technology has regressed as well to the point of return to ancient methods of farming, resource gathering, aqueducts in cities, and even in military tools such as a return to melee weapons. Ancient weapons used by humanity long before the Great Migration are a rarity, and often used by high ranking generals of city-state legions.   All in all, the world of Elysium is plagued with war, politics, petty ambition, and ruthlessness. It is an age ripe for conquest. One man, by the name of Malachite Kane, has begun a conquest of his own to claim the city of Elysia, the city which had betrayed him and left him for dead.
