Desert Hound

Desert Hounds have the body shape of a wolf or dog, but have thick feathers rather than fur. The feathers are stiff and hard and function somewhat like scales, protecting the Desert Hound. Despite being feathered, the Desert Hound has no wings. The head of the Desert Hound is bird-like with a sharp hooked beak. The feet are also bird like, with talons rather than paws.

These creatures are mostly found in the Great Mavlani Wastes and other surrounding areas. Despite looking like a carnivore, these creature actually eat a diet similar to that of an Azar, and thus are sometimes referred to as Azar Hounds or Gold Hounds.

Desert Hounds primarily eat metals, and are known to hunt for them, and thus are used to locate veins of minerals and metals, making them useful work animals. They take well to domestication, and are a common pet in many places.
