Athelian Calendar
The Athelian Calendar was adopted by Emaniquora for wide use following The Unity. It was being used in some nations Pre-Unity for thousands of years prior. The count of the years began again following the death of Loras on the 23rd of Abarat 498 years ago. Since then this day has always been celebrated around the country with feasts, parades, and gift-giving. There are many other holidays as well. They vary in practice from countrywide, regional, to even as small as to be localized to only one town.
How Time is Recorded
One year is divided into ten months. Each month is evenly divided into five weeks equaling 35 days total. Each week is divided into seven days. The counting of the years began at Zero on the day that Loras died. This means that Year 1 began on the following first of Salehn. Dates before this are noted by placing a "B.U." at the end of the year, meaning "Before Unity." Dates after Loras' death are marked with "A.U." for "After Unity." Records prior to The Unity are spotty and often unreliable due to the near-constant war, sacking of cities, and burning of the places where such writings may have been kept. Because of this, it is unknown how time was recorded before the Unity. Great advances have been made since The Unity Period to ensure that time is recorded precisely and accurately.Names of Months & Seasons
