Lorisen
The Capital City of Lorisen
Over five centuries ago the city was the capital of the elven nation of Athelian and was known as Athelis. The Uniter, Loras Hamonet, was born in this city and grew up in a rougher area of the city called Cliffside. In these times, the city was still fairly large, but by no means was it as sprawling as it is today. The innovations that allow the ships to be lifted up the cliffs did not exist yet and this somewhat limited trade as it was harder to move goods to and from Glennola Bay to the Ansklere River. In the area that would come to be known as Empire Circle, there was a small castle and several other smaller towers that would not be replaced by the Spires until 48 A.U.
During The Unity, the city quickly became the epicenter of the Empire. As more and more ancestries began to move from their old nations into new urban cities, the neighborhoods of Lorisen became more and more diverse. See the article on The Residential Neighborhoods of Lorisen to learn more about where people have settled throughout this vast urban landscape.
As with any capital of an empire, much of the nation's businesses and commercial interests are centered here. Though it is at somewhat of a disadvantage in terms of trade beyond the borders of the nation, it is a hub for comings and goings as it is at the outlet of the Ansklere River. The lifts at the Brilanthir waterfall have facilitated this. For more information on the business districts throughout the city, see the article on the Commercial Neighborhoods of Lorisen.
There are various deities worshipped in the city. For more information on these organizations, see the article on Deity Worship in Lorisen.
Loras' Day
One of the biggest celebrations within the Lorasian Empire and definitely within the city of Loras itself are the festivities surrounding Loras' Day on the 23rd of Abarat. In Lorisen, Loras' Day - sometimes called Founder's Day, Empire Day, or the Anniversary - is celebrated for nearly the entire month in many ways, though most of the festivities occur in the week leading up to the actual day.
There is a large festival/carnival funded by the wealthy families held in The Green that is free for anyone in the city to attend, though games and events cost coin. There are more vendors in the city, especially in the Empire Circle. The Tracks have more races throughout the week with a final tournament occuring on the 23rd where the winner receives a large purse which often includes additional prizes such as deeds to tracts of land or businesses. There is also a gladatorial tournament that happens at the Sanctuary Stadium.
For the city's wealthy, elite, or illustrious residents, there is a fantastic ball on the night of the 23rd. For many of these residents, they are rarely all together at one time, so it provides a chance to rub shoulders, make deals, and prove their worth for being there. The winners of several tournaments are allowed to attend.
The City Below
Below the city of Lorisen there is a secret settlement where magic is used freely. Xhosidva, an ancient elven city, has been excavated by those who live there and remains hidden from most 'topsiders.' For more information on this Xhosidva follow the link.Remove these ads.
