Born of unnatural magicks, the Shadow Assassin is a creature whose soul has been manipulated and twisted using necromantic powers. In exchange for their soul, these people - willing or unwilling - serve their masters with unnatural loyalty. They are hard to see, as the eye, unused to creatures lacking a soul, glances over them as if they were not there. They are excellent trackers due to this. They are hard to kill and harder to shake off once they have been ordered to follow you. Once noticed, they often appear as people of varying ancestries, but lacking a spark in their eyes and often showing no expression whatsoever, even when mortally wounded.   Most unnerving of all, these creatures have the ability to consume the souls of their victims. This terrifying ability lands them as one of the most elite assassins in nature, prized for their skills.

Melee Gray blade (one-action) +21 [+17/+13] (agile, finesse, magical), Damage: 2d12+9 slashing. Sneak Attack: The assassin deals 1d6 extra precision damage to flat-footed creatures. Surprise Attack: On the first round of combat, creatures that haven’t acted yet are flat-footed to the assassin.
Special Abilities Abyssal Stare: As an action a soulless creature can stare into the eyes of another living being within 30 feet and force it to confront the infinite, empty void beyond death. Targets who fail a Will save (DC 30) waver in their will to survive and take a –4 penalty to all saves and skill and ability checks for 1d4 rounds. Creatures affected by the abyssal stare gaze are immune to other uses of the stare for 24 hours. This is a mindaffecting, fear effect.

Rituals Devour Soul (3 actions) (necromancy, occult) Requirements: The assassin has killed a creature within the last round and is adjacent to the creature; Effect: The assassin consumes the creature’s soul. The soul is utterly destroyed—nothing short of wish or a similar effect can restore it to life, and only after the assassin has been slain. The assassin regains Hit Points equal to double the level of the consumed creature. Each time the assassin consumes 10 souls, it increases its level by 1, and its statistics improve accordingly.
