Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Ariminium (Are-uh-men-e-um)

Capital of the Imperium and dubbed the Jewel of Emaxus, Ariminium is far and away the largest city on Emaxus. In fact, even ranking against the largest metropolises across Yophas, Ariminium is an impressive city. Its white-marble structures, towering walls, and perfectly-carved canal systems dominate a tract of land some three miles across, while its farmlands and villages stretch for hundreds of miles.   In the wake of the Collapse, Ariminium has become plagued by strife. Even the Jewel of Emaxus isn't free from the chaos gripping Aitreas. As the Imperium continues to recede, Ariminium has become flooded by tens of thousands of refugees. Though it is still a beautiful city with the highest quality of life in Emaxus, it teeters on the edge. To one side: continued prosperity and the path to recovery. On the other: ruin.

Government

Ariminium is the seat of the Imperium's power. Here, the Senatorum, Forum Imperial, and other political bodies meet and run the entirety of the Imperium. In the wake of the Collapse, these groups have become increasingly frantic and even endangered, as people who have lost everything look for someone to blame.

Infrastructure

Ariminium has some of the best designed infrastructure in Emaxus. It has a complex sewer system, aqueducts and running water, and artificy is integrated in people's daily lives, providing technologies like message stations and purified water.

Guilds and Factions

Because there are so many political and other factions of power, it is nearly impossible to enumerate them all, and the largest ones have so much information as to need their own articles. As those factions need to be made, they'll be listed here and under Factions of Aitreas.

History

Ariminium is a storied city. It was the first major settlement established by Yathra Silthaman settlers coming to Aitreas, who named it Ariminium, which meant Great Jewel in the pre-Reckoning language of Euxinan. Then, it had its growth halted -- as did all of Aitreas -- under Krathum's reign. It was the first place liberated by Ralla Kindguard and her Auric Exemplars, then served as their base of operations for much of the Fragmented War.   When Rheomia conquered Aitreas and created the Imperium, she named Ariminium the capital. Since then, the city has exploded in growth and become the largest city on Emaxus by several hundred thousand people. Though it has shrunk some since the Collapse, it is still a titanic hub of Emaxians. The main difference now is the strife that haunts its streets, the terror of greater Aitreas infiltrating even the Jewel of the Imperium.

Architecture

Ariminium is largely built of stone: marble, limestone, and the like. Gardens and sweeping waterworks dominate street sides and divide neighborhoods, with homes built from clay and stone revealing open-air designs. Ariminian architecture reflects Imperial architecture as a whole, which itself reflects Imperial culture: openness, freedom, and trust.

Geography

Ariminium is positioned in the center of the Cor Siderum Peninsula's coastline. With a sprawling harbor, Ariminium is the largest port in the world. It's at the mouth of the Aitrean Sea, so almost all merchants going in or out of the Aitrean Sea pass through Ariminium's harbor.   As for the land, the Cor Siderum Peninsula is entirely plains and lightly-forested hills. The farms that feed Ariminium spread for dozens of miles, and the sprawling village network that is bound to the capital covers most of the several hundred square-mile peninsula.

I miss home. This is the place that would have Roman Colosseums right?
