Syluru, Mother of Peace
"Life begets life. Even Yamma was born a mortal man; to fail to protect life as a living thing is to fail your truest duty."
Goddess of spring, nature, peace, and rebirth, Syluru is known as one of the most benevolent gods. She represents all that is natural and good on Emaxus, and many Druid circles pay her homage. From every worm in the dirt to every fish in the ocean, a piece of Syluru thrives. She seeks to maintain the great, delicate balance of all living things, and was a good friend of Laianath, relatively speaking. Syluru's will is that of peace between mortals and nature, as well as between mortals themselves, and the continued cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
Be that as it may, the Mother of Peace is not unsullied by rage. Indeed, when the balance of nature is devastated, her god-spirit can rouse great champions of nature and amongst mortals to defend the sanctity of the natural world. She learned this from Isael, her good friend and occasional lover, and would channel the rage of the storm when necessary.
Depictions, Symbols, and Names
Syluru is most often depicted as a short humanoid woman with ebony skin and long, curly red hair. Her eyes are that of the most verdant forests, and her likeness is that of a frolicking child; however, some smaller, regional cultures prefer a more animistic approach to Syluru. They believe that she is truly of nature, and instead depict her as an animal-headed humanoid or an even more ephemeral rendition. Certain Drumian and Imperial towns are known for this. Syluru's symbol is of Spring's Blossom, the greatest tree in Yophas, sprouting from the light of Yacrena and rimmed in the earth of Emaxus. Simpler depictions of this symbol tend to focus on just the tree, and some depictions choose to focus wholly on the tree and make it intricate and beautiful. Syluru is known by many names to many folk (there are near endless names that the different Druid circles of Emaxus give to her), but the main ones are: Syluru, Mother of Peace, Mother Nature, Flower of Peace, All-Mother, and the Great Provider.Ancient Home
In the heart of Sylthereth, there is a great, floating forest known as Sylureth. Hidden among these floating, tree-covered boulders is a city known as Salthera, the home of Syluru and her most devoted followers. Once, the city bustled with life. Now, it lies quiet and dormant, a hallowed solemnity hanging over it. Syluru's god-spirit rests in its heart, in a place known as the Spring's Bloom.Worship Distribution
Syluru is one of the most worshipped Children of Yamma. From clerics in cities petitioning her for healing and bountiful harvests to farmers praying to her for healthy crops, Syluru has devotees throughout civilization for a simple reason: people hope she will help them grow food. While people will also pray to her for protection when travelling and healing when sick or any other countless reasons, the most common reason one is for better harvests and resilient food supplies.Champions of Syluru
Champions of Syluru are known as Wardens of Life, and are named when grave threats to nature arise, or when the balance of nature and civilization is off and must be restored. One Warden of Life has been named in the Age of Extant, and few are known from The Reckoning and before.- Friendliness, a Hellborn woman who was named Warden of Life just after Syluru reawakened. It is believed that she created the tree that serves as Syluru's temple in Yathra Silthame and helped the Silver City expand far into The Iotruyla River Basin by healing the ecosystems that had been devastated in the Reckoning.
- Thori Mudbelt, lived during the Reckoning. Believed to have fought in the battle that created the Isututh Timberland -- though this is just a legend.
Divine Domains
Syluru is goddess of spring, nature, peace, and rebirth, and the de facto goddess of life in Yophas. Clerics sworn to her tend to fall under the Domains of Hunt, Life, Nature, Peace, and Solidarity. Paladins of Syluru swear Oaths of Devotion, Redemption, the Ancients, and even Vengeance (when great travesties against nature are committed).COMMANDMENTS OF SYLURU
- Respect the natural world, for all life owes its roots to the dirt.
- Defend the sanctity of life, death, and the rebirth that follows. Face those who would disrupt the balance.
- Keep peace in all you do, but know when violence is necessary.
