Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Zanizer, the Broken City (Zan-eh-zair)

Zanizer, the Broken City, is the most (in)famous floating city in current Emaxian historical records. It was from Zanizer's floating throne that Krathum the Defiler brought ruin to Aitreas and built a Defiled Empire which reigned for fifty years. It was in Zanizer's horrid, dark halls that Krathum nearly ascended to godhood. And it was atop Zanizer's towering monoliths of darkness that Krathum was laid low and his Defiled Empire at last brought to ruin.   Whether Zanizer is destroyed or once more hidden across Yophas is unknown. But, even if it did somehow survive the cataclysmic explosion that marked Krathum's death and the end of the Fragmented War, it likely didn't do so wholly.

The Birthplace of Necroficy

Zanizer was rebuilt and lifted once more wholly through the power of necroficy: the fusion of necromancy and technology that Krathum created and pioneered to incredible heights. Animancy, hemomancy, necromancy, and a myriad of other dark magics were and can still be used in the use of necroficy. It was through the conquest and slaughter of countless thousands (including its own citizens) that Zanizer was rebuilt, and it was through the continued subjugation and genocide of countless tens of thousands more that Krathum built his Defiled Empire of Aitreas.

History

Once, Zanizer was a beacon of light, a shining bastion of civilization that served as Riktor the Sorcerer-King's floating throne city during the Age of Rebirth. From its gilded towers, Riktor ruled an empire that spanned all of Aitreas. He kept his people safe, stable, and free of strife, and ruled with wisdom and cunning for a great many centuries. Zanizer may have even been the very first of the legendary floating cities of the Age of Rebirth.   Whatever glory Zanizer once held, it was all lost in the Reckoning. As with the rest of Riktor's empire, Zanizer burned under the combined wrath of the Obsidian Lords and their Empires in Obsidian. Even with all his gathered might, Riktor was no match, and in a desperate bid for survival, he plane shifted the entirety of Zanizer -- or most of it, at least -- off of Emaxus. It reappeared in Nathrivox, where it crash-landed and most of Zanizer's inhabitants were slain.   Forced to make a choice to survive, Riktor became a lich: Krathum the Defiler. With his necromantic powers, he began to raise those who had been slain as undead, and worked for centuries to rebuild Zanizer and go back to Emaxus. Fueled by rage at the betrayal he believed he suffered at the hands of the Children of Yamma, Krathum swore to go back to Emaxus in the wake of the death of the gods and become its one true divine. To this end, he worked to fuse necromancy and technology in an technoarcane art he called necroficy.   Thus, Zanizer, the Broken City, was born. Its gilded towers became pylons of darkness, the entire city made into a necroficial hub of dark energies and necromancy.
