Angels
An Angel is a spiritual being that acts as a servant of God, either as an agent in His divine agenda or as a messenger. They come in several different types and have different roles within the Heavenly realm, either as messengers, warriors, or creatures of symbolic significance.
"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways." - Psalm 91:11In contrast there are fallen angels, ones who rebelled against God and seek to torment and tempt the humans of the earth. These are often referred to as demons, and are led by the devil, the Satan, an envious angel named Lucifer who seeks the damnation of mankind.

History
According to Christian tradition, angels were created as spiritual beings that inhabit heaven with God. They are often assigned tasks, such as being part of the heavenly army, or as messengers, or as agents to do the will of God. Many of them do not have a will of their own, existing only to do God's tasks. It is believed they were created before the world in some Christian traditions.
What is also believed was that an angel, named Lucifer, desired the throne of God for himself and rebelled against God with his own followers of angels. These angels were cast from heaven by the arch-angel Michael. (Isaiah 14:12-17) These fallen angels, later being considered "demons" had their fate condemned to hell along with Lucifer. Lucifer, desiring to share his fate of condemnation, would tempt God's creation of man and woman and lead them to sin. These fallen angels then wed the women of the earth, creating Nephilim, that began to rule the earth and led it to great wickedness, though many were destroyed in the Noahic flood (Genesis 6-8).
Thus war took place on heaven and earth between the souls of mankind and the demons that seek to torment them. The angels loyal to God were tasked to do the will of God upon the earth and are the enemies of demons. Thus it was: that the angels would lead the faithful to righteousness, while the demons would torment and tempt mankind.
With the birth and ministry of Jesus Christ, Satan sought war with the earth itself. As such, the angels were instructed to protect the faithful humans against demons and evil spirits. They would minister to them and turn their sword against the demons to strike against them. It is believed, in the end of all things, the angels will join God in vanquishing Satan once and for all, sending him to burn in the Lake of Fire with all other sinners on the earth, and his demons.
