Dalmus Grimboot

King Dalmus Grimboot (a.k.a. the Liberator)

Dalmus Grimboot started his life serving with the guards of Valtkos Dreski, deep within the Apps Mountains. He served honorably and in several of the minor border wars that took place between dwarven strongholds throughout the 800s. In 933, Valtkos Dreski faced assault by an unknown plant creature that infiltrated through the upper levels of the stronghold and ultimately undermined the keep's defenses. Despite the best efforts of the dwarves' warriors and engineers, the plant and its servants managed to destroy the stronghold and many dwarves were forced to flee. After constant struggles with the wild goblins and orcs of the Mountains, Grimboot and his companions ended up in the Kingdom of Alsona, where they were offered refuge in Gordon.    In Gordon, Grimboot and the other dwarves found it difficult to obtain employment, as those owning the mines and businesses sought human expertise instead. After nearly twenty years of seeing the mistreatment of his people, especially elders and craftsmen, Grimboot ended up in a fight with a human noble. The noble was killed in the fistfight, and Grimboot was convicted to a life sentence in Wingo Mine, a new facility operated by Crysos Mining Company. He labored there as one of the first laborers until the arrival of a group of adventurers in 1021. They provided an impetus for Grimboot to organize the human and elf gangs within the mines into a formidable fighting force. After a victorious battle against a hive of ants within the mountain, Grimboot escaped and made it out to Citrivale in the lands of the Tenashi elves.   Grimboot took personal charge of the rebellion against the Kingdom of Alsona, and led the dwarves into the fight, wielding a powerful warhammer granted to him by the elves. The Wingo War proved to be a moment of calling for him, and his tactical genius led the allied armies to heights and invasion deep into the heart of Alsona. He lacked the forces required to overthrow the human kingdom completely, and he was forced to withdraw back across the Eficharistos River, to the lands he called his own. The war was brought to an end with a ceasefire and he took control, becoming a king.    He would lead the armies of the dwarves into battle again, against the Lewites in 1028, fighting them to a stalemate. Since then, he has been focused on turning the mines at Wingo into a true city of dwarves, building infrastructure and all of the hallmarks of a proper dwarven citadel. He has been lauded by his fellows for trying to carve out a new home for the dwarven people, away from the Apps Mountains, although some critics are concerned about his relatively poor treatment of the humans in Valtkos Wingo, even those who had aided in the fight for freedom.
