Dragonkin

Dragonkin live nearly exclusively in the Kingdom of Populres. Their monstrous heritages and appearances make them unwelcome in the Civilized Lands and the Shin Empire. Large communities have grown to exist of Dragonkin in Populres, and they have formed their own independent subcultures within the “monster kingdom.” Dragonkin have been seen as travelers and adventurers, but they rarely receive a warm welcome in any of the human kingdoms of the south. This makes them infrequent at best except occasionally serving as sailors upon merchant vessels along the eastern coast and in the Bahami Emirates.

Dragonkin in D&D Fifth Edition

Dragonkin in Emicara use the same character creation statistics and tools as the Dragonborn listed in the Player's Handbook. To resolve this dispute for any future Dragonkin in Emicara, Dragonkin do not possess tails. For a creature with scales and a tail, see lizardfolk.

Naming Traditions

Most Dragonkin, like orcs, lack surnames and instead only take upon last names following accomplishments that are worthy of naming themselves after. Their first names are typically more standard, following the naming conventions of orcs and demonkin throughout Populres. Some names can be found more common within their people, and others bond with dragonkin of similar scale color and appearance.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Nearly all Dragonkin speak Draconic, but there are often minor regional dialects among dragonkin depending on their tribes and scale colors.

History

The origin of Dragonkin is a mystery to most in Emicara. The first sightings of these people were over six hundred years ago, high in the mountains of the Apps. They eventually were spotted fighting with orcs and marauding against other towns and tribes throughout the peaks. In time, constant warfare with dwarven citadels and the orc tribes led them to enter into the lowlands. The Mersan Union and Recfrere were forced to fight numerous wars against the dragonkin tribe until they were driven north into orc lands. The orcs found common cause with the Dragonkin and welcomed them into their culture and nation. The Dragonkin eventually formed the backbone of Populres' army and economy, and today act as a powerful middle class and officer class.
