Finlay Cole
Mayor Finlay Cole
Finlay Cole, of the Haven Coles, was a halfling merchant who thrived in the success and growth of his family's caravan company. The wealth of the family relied heavily upon the caravans of goods traded between Alonsa and the Civilized Lands of the south. Alsonan lumber brought along the Long Road brought ample gold into the family's coffers, and was a source of steady income until the outbreak of the Wingo War. Finlay's father was killed by a group of dwarves during the fighting, and Finlay was forced to step forward from comfortable living in the Villages to assume his position as head of the family.
During the Wingo War, Finlay managed to organize a caravan embargo of the Wingo dwarves, helping to strangle their economic efforts at recognition and weakening their war effort. This was not out of a cry for vengeance for his father, instead, it was a strictly fiduciary decision. The embargo created new ties with the Sypi Confederacy and Alsona alike, and all of the halfling caravans benefited from the effort and support of a new royal crown. The Alsonan market had been previously untouched by caravans, and further expansions into Highveldt helped further.
Thanks to the economic boom Finlay helped to bring to the people of the Villages, he handily won the election for mayor upon the death of his predecessor, and he was unopposed. His election in 1034 saw his family's rise to ever greater prominence. He has been an advocate of the Jakonian Empire and the wealth it offers, preaching in favor of the highly profitable status quo.
