Legal Distinctions in Letters of Marque

A legal tome that discusses the nuances of letters of marque throughout Emicara, covering it nation by nation. The book details first how under Jakonian Imperial law, letters of marque were deemed fully illegal, but the decline of the empire has led to a loosening of these laws. While still technically illegal in Jakonian waters, there is leeway for ships who are chartered as "corsair hunters." These vessels are privately armed ships that hunt corsair raiders from the Bahami Emirates that prey upon Jakonian shipping along the eastern coast. They are encouraged to enter into Bahami waters intentionally to hunt the corsairs on their own turf.   The kingdoms of Recfrere, Losana, and Forard all offer their own letters of marque, often against each other or towards the Jakonian Empire. These are often profitable, but if captured by the Jakonians, a crew involved with one of these kingdoms is likely to find itself imprisoned, or at worst, hanged. The Free City of Riveraineville offers the most lucrative letters of marque available to sailors, but frequently puts up exceptions for the Kingdom of Losana, due to the close nature of trading between the two states. Riveraineville privateers usually find themselves in the most competition with shipping out of Augustin and Capcora.
