Leonard Connor

Sheriff Leonard Connor

Leonard Connor was born to a human and a high elf vacationing in the city of Waycross. Abandoned by his parents, he was adopted into a family of local tailors and weavers. He ended up spending much time in the streets of the city earning what he could in whatever manner possible, seeking to avoid a destitute life. Unwilling to work for his adoptive family, which abused him greatly, he left home at the young age of fourteen. He eventually fell in with a bandit gang in the Badlands, fighting over the scraps of the wasteland against other bandits and orc tribes. In 986 he seized control over the gang and moved his operations into Recfrere, taking advantage of the chaos caused by the Opella War.   The war proved a great boon to Leonard and his crew, and they soon seized control of a small village near the city of Statham, extorting the residents for protection and living the high life off of the salvage left behind by the Mersan and Recfreran armies at the nearby frontline. Matter changed greatly for him however, after a major Mersan push along the front line in 991 lead to a full Mersan regiment heading directly towards the village. Surprisingly, instead of fleeing, Leonard organized the bandits and townsfolk alike to stand against the Mersans. What should have been a lop-sided battle instead turned into a victory for Leonard, who held until the arrival of Recfreran reinforcements.    Leonard gained a bit of fame for his victory, and most of his bandit associates were slain during the fighting. He was granted offers to enlist in either the Free Militia or join up with the Assembly of Sheriffs. A vague threat of arrest was dangled over his head, forcing him to join up with the law and order he had long resisted. He accepted the appointment of a sheriff's position in the town of Cross, which had been looking for an outsider to help root out corruption and unsavory practices among the ranks. The mayor approved of the new hire.    As a deputy sheriff, Leonard found a knack for rooting out corruption and nepotism in the ranks of the militia and guards of Cross. He quickly won over those looking for support, while enriching himself at the same time. Although he attributed his financial success to a trading acumen and success in investments, he truly built his lucre from the confiscation and seizure of the assets of corrupt sheriffs and administrators. Even his newfound wife was the former wife of one of the officers he had previous exposed and arrested. These assets helped to spur him to greater financial success and he played freely with the wealth to the masses, providing ample funds and support to the people of Cross, and buying his way into acceptance.    In 1013, the death of the previous Sheriff of Cross created an opening for Leonard, and while he would have been rather old by human standards, his elven ancestry meant that he was still at his prime. He spent his money on an election campaign to become the new Sheriff of Cross. Having long since won over the working class of Cross with his lavish open door parties and spending, he was a shoo-in, easing besting the candidate propped up by the local mayor and elites. He has since continued to loudly advocate for the rights of the working man while becoming one of the richest individuals in the town.
