Aurient Empire

The Dragon Empire of Aurient is a 900 year old mercantile Empire, headed by the Great Blue Dragon, Astrobulax. What started as a space created to allow for the creation and flourishing of the Dragon's hoard grew into a large metropolis, and from there into a sprawling empire.
There are two main facets to the leadership of the Empire. The Emperor is the figurehead, and the totempole on which the whole system stands. He is a constant across time, supplying a level of permanancy, and acting to defend his Empire where needed. Beneath the empire is the Bureaucracy, which deals with the day to day running of the Empire. At the beginning of the Bureaucracy, it was known as the Civil Service, but in later years, the old Civil Service has been split into two large and sprawling departments - The Department of Home Affairs, and the Department of Foreign Affairs. Both departments run with one idea at the top of their minds - the expansion of the Empire, and the growth of Astrobulax' Hoard.
At the present time, the sprawl of the Empire of Aurient takes in the whole of the Dragontail Archipelago, including the Kenku Commonwealth; the Trading Cities of Isla Magna; The Stormy Isles, including the Kobold kingdoms of the Great Desert and the Nimlock Tribes; and the Protectorate of the Cambrae Coast.
