Automated Long-Term Support

Automated Long-Term Support (ALTS) is a technology first deployed in UDAT 0078 that allows an application to autonomously make adjustments to itself to ensure longevity and future compatibility. This technology is on the White Night Corps' Blacktech List and has largely been eliminated, although remnants likely remain in wrecknets and other largely disconnected systems.

Utility

Although designed to mainly adapt to changing network protocols and new operating system versions, many instances using ALTS developed alternate capacities ranging from uninstalling rival software to the development of software functionality in an entirely different industry branch such as WrapOSdist.

Social Impact

Although there have been no known cases of ALTS resulting in neither intentional nor unintentional malevolent behaviour the White Night Corps warned that the technology may present a Global Apocalypse Driver . Consequently, all known instances of ALTS have been destroyed.
