Ugo
Small and hairy, these stout creatures are often kept as feedstock around Endeavour.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Often considered plump or portly, Ugo are naturally larger than other creatures of similar stature due to the thick layer of fat that grows mainly around the Ugo's belly. This is due to the Ugo's natural ability to store extra energy to be used in hibernation. They have six slender legs with short clawed paws. The head has a snubby snout with a wet black noses, two eyes and two floppy ears. They have a long hairy tail that is used to swat at insects that swarm at them.
Genetics and Reproduction
Ugo reproduce sexually with a gestation period of six months. They have large litters of up to twenty children.
Growth Rate & Stages
Ugo grow into adulthood between the ages of two and three.
Ecology and Habitats
Ugo primarily are found near riverbanks, marshes and deltas and are quite proficent at swimming. Their blubbery body provides high buoyancy to assist despite their weight.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Ugo typically eat the roots of various plants, but are known to eat all manner of vegetation to survive.
Biological Cycle
During the hottest seasons of the year, they dig out shallow burrows in the mud near the water to enter a period of hiberation until the temperature cools back down.

Domestication
Domesticate Ugo have a much shorter hibernating period than their wild brethren. They are kept in small herds, often held in a small muddy pen and overfed to exaggerate their natural plumpness.

Ugo are commonly kept as livestock as a source of meat and leather.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Ugo are found in many different areas across Endeavour. While they originated in the temperate isles off of Tesard, they have migrated both naturally and through livestock trade. Due to thier natural hardiness, the Ugo flourish in many diverse ecosystems and have evolved some distinct traits in each enviroment. Ugo found in the deserts of Tesard are usuailly darker in coloration than their temperate counterparts and hiberate for a longer period. The Ugo found in Pyccynn and its surrounding islands have adapted to the cold by growing a thicker heavy fur coat.

Ugo have an excellent sense of smell in which can smell roots and other vegatables several feet underground.
