Inktober XII: Villainous

The forgotten god of storms, disorder, violence, and gambling

Set is an extraplanar Old God banished forever to the shadowy realms beyond death when his faith was replaced following the Blainian Uprising around 1500 P.J. His domains are of deserts, storms, disorder, violence, and foreigners, though these days he has mainly switched to the realms of gambling in place of the first.

History

Set was manufactured as a deity in the earliest day of the kinds as a God of brutality and violence, but not of death. This turned away many people afraid of such base instinct as much as it attracted those who wished for the subjugation of blood of their enemies.   Set made his way into the Fousithian Pantheon and maintained this status for several hundred years, inciting many wars and receiving many more sacrifices. This did not bide well for the growing power of the Blainians, who believed in a singular God and thought of the Fousithian followers as "nothing more than beasts on their knees before some insignificant figures of wood and stone." Later on, they would overtake the continent and outlaw the worship of Fousithian gods, eventually leading to Set's downfall and banishment from interfering with the material plane.   Millenia passed in darkness and bored, solemn games for Set and other gods of past religions thrown out by humanity until Set was contacted one day by some researchers of the Ecclesiastes. They were researching cross-planar communication and summoning, and had happened upon some rites and rituals relating to him from past civilizations.   This connection to the mortal world only became stronger when a researcher unrelated to the project named Scion snuck into the room and gained knowledge of Set, eventually making a deal to explore the material world once again in exchange for one day helping Scion create a sentient weapon.   Now, as Scion explores the world, Set can feel his grasp on it returning day by day. Soon enough, he may be able to interact with others as well, and given enough time, Set may be able to regain the same amount of control he had on this world as he did before the days of the Blanians.

Personality

During his reign of full control, Set was cruel as can be when interacting with most mortals, but was kind and loyal to those of his creed or acting in his favor. One particularly nasty show of force came in the form of a whole fleet of Blanian flagships being turned to cinder in one, instantaneous flash of lightning.   As time passed away from the normal world, Set mellowed out while also adopting a good facade during his time gambling away. He developed intimate bonds with the other forgotten gods, forced to become good friends because there truly was little else to do.   However, with the new exposure to the outside world, Set is beginning to change slowly but surely. Questions he originally responded to with genuine knowledge and hints slowly grew into seeding false information so he and the other gods watching could laugh at Scion's expense when applying it. Set's interaction with the mortal world is also making him more defensive and prideful, as the other gods without ties to the planes may attempt to try taking his follower, his one true power left in these worlds, away from him.
