Ruby Rain
Ruby Rain is a bi-anual occurence only on the crystal isle within Wyrmholm.
Twice a year when the Bloodmoon occurs a strange phenomena takes place in wyrmholm, red clouds gather in the sky charged by the strange mystical power of the blood moon and it will start raining. This rain however is not normal rain as instead of liquid water the red liquid falling from the skies solidifies into charged ruby crystals upon contact. These crystals have various applications in craftsmanship and arcane studies through the mystical power absorbed within. It is however critical to catch the drops before they land on the ground as upon connecting with the ground they will fuse with the crystal island and the charge is absorbes by the island, rendering it useless even if one were to try and mine the island.
Among the dragonkin inhabiting the island the Ruby rain is revered as a holy event for much of their power is lent to them by these rare stones and the power they provide. Due to the event's importance a "ruby Festival takes place for the two weeks leading up to a bloodmoon during which the entire population celebrates the coming of the Ruby Rain. The belief is that the ancestral dragons bless their decendants on this holy day and send down a small fraction of their power to protect their decendants and provide the island with the power it needs to provide for their offspring, as such only a small portion of the rubies are harvested each year to allow the majority of the power to be harvested by the island instead so that they may continue to persist in their draconic paradise.
Over time a elite group of craftsmen called rubysmiths have developed increasingly efficient ways to incorporate the power of the rubies into magical items, weapons and staves. export of charged rubies or products containing them is strictly forbidden and as such finding them outside of wyrmholm is extremely rare. It is Rumored that the staves crafted with the rubies is what enables the ancient dragons to achieve their nature-defying feats of magic from ancient tales such as the summoning of mighty hurricanes or sky-high tsunamis during the dragon wars
