Abandoned by his parents when he was still a kid, he is then raised by his grandmother Karna, the former maid of a noble family.
Striving for him to improve his social status, she pushes him to become a valet.

Education

Initially illeterate when under his parents care, his grandmother teaches him the very basics after he moves in with her. She also teaches him everything there is to know to be a skilled servant.

Employment

He starts working as a valet after passing an exam to which all of those who had applied to enter the service of the Greyger family.
His current position is given to him by Mr. Raffit.

Stripped of parental love, he finds the love of a mother in his grandmother while he looks up at both Mr. Raffit and his master  as parental figures, of sorts.
