At first there was nothing. Well, almost nothing. From nothingness had formed in a mysterious way, a slightly oval, yellowish-white thing. Although the concept of time did not yet exist, it took several millennia before a change occurred. A tiny crack on what turned out to be an egg. A huge egg. Much bigger than what you and I, intergalactic travelers, know. Little by little, the crack widened. And when we thought we could see what was hidden within it, there was only darkness. Was it just a reflection of the immensity and emptiness all around us? Nothing but an egg, heated for so long by a lonely sun.
Cracked on all sides, the shell finally fell into pieces, finally revealing what we had taken for what it was not. Long enough to surround the broad sun of this galaxy, a serpent as black as the blackest Vantablack emerged.
“Born from nothingness and the heat of this dazzling star, my destiny is forever linked to this place which I am now responsible of.”
These were their first words, addressing the travelers who had witnessed their birth and no longer seemed to be worried about this extragalactic presence. their mission had been entrusted to them long before they hatched, and it began now. The fate of their property mattered little to them, only their mission mattered. Populate this galaxy. Whether these populations lived or died was not up to them. However, it was obvious that to achieve the mission, a lot of energy would be needed. It would not be logical, or even judicious, not to pay attention to new populations. To deal with this, an idea came up.
By a means that even I cannot explain in terms other than those I know from my galaxy, this snake which had just been born managed to lay a series of eggs of a similar size to the one from which it had emerged a little time ago. You would imagine that such laying requires a long period of rest once finished, what a surprise it was to see at the same time both the mother and father of these offspring arrange them in a circle and begin to brood them!
This time, however, the brooding only lasted a few hundred years, or at least what felt like it. One by one, the eggs cracked and then, their shells fell into pieces, revealing mere stones with a shape more or less similar to that of the sweet blue planet I hail from. And nestled against each rock, miniature versions of what we call 'human beings'. Their number varied from stone to stone, some were covered, others only denoted the presence of one. We observed that there was always at least one of them on what we later realized were future planets.
Were these beings going to be responsible for the future populations of this galaxy? Their state left room for doubt. Frail and helpless, they could only crawl and reach out to their parent. Then another surprising and fascinating event took place. Coiling itself again around its offspring, this snake that we had only recently met offered its body to the beings who began to consume its scales, then its flesh, leaving only the organs and the skeleton intact. The spectacle was reminiscent of these spiders which, similarly, served as the first meal for their newborns.
We then saw each of them grow and acquire the abilities necessary to create life, in all its complexity. Imbued with the same mission, they began to flood their stones, to bring out still infertile lands and the first forms of life. It was now obvious that they would become the revered beings of their respective worlds.
We had simply witnessed the entire process of Creation. No one would have imagined one day witnessing such a miracle.
