Enroth

This is a world of might and magic that has been cut off from the outer planes in an event known the world over as The Silence. Gods, angels, and demons can no longer influence this world. Those elementals and outsiders that remain are more cautious in that destruction reduces them to harmless spirit forms trapped in the Ethereal Plane until they gather enough energy to reconstitute themselves.   Those that remain put their world back together after the near collapse of divine magic. Clerics are gone and druids are in extremely limited number. The peoples of the world turned to other forms of magic and technique in order to fill the gaps left behind. Powers of the mind, body, and spirit were developed in the thousand years since the Silence and the world has done its best to prosper.   Then came the Night of Shooting Stars. Demons, once thought gone in any real numbers, dropped from the skies and began to take control of large areas. A cult of peasants and townspeople have somehow developed clerical magic in a world without gods. The balance of power in the world has become extremely unstable.
