Demora 'Demo' Osu Kirul
Demora Osu Kirul is a well-known and recently retired primeri adventurer. She has recently been taken on as one of the new Year One instructors at The Academy of Heroics in her hometown q’tari city of Jarynos, the “city in the belly of the beast” or “Behemoth City” among its many names. The academy system in Jarynos is world-renowned, and rivaled among the q’tari only in the capital of Sisketar. No single q’tari academy, however, has more prestige than The Academy of Heroics.
Demora’s credentials come from a long career as part of Pang’s Light, a group that began as a lost mercenary unit making its way back home from a battle it was hired to fight in the desert. The battle was long over when they made it back months later, and due to their harrowing tales of their desert adventurers and the loss of much of the unit, all were offered their positions back or an honorable discharge from the company. The five who took the discharge became Pang’s Light, a name their devout primeri cleric, Krenasha Osu Palok, also known as “Kren” in the stories, came up with. Other members of Pang’s Light were a gnomish pirate named Biznap “Snappy” Picklewood who served as the charismatic “face” of the group, and Layla James, a human mage for whom there was no nickname, though she is sometimes called “the honorable Miss James” as she was older than the others and spent some time as a magistrate at Moonfield Hold before hitting the road as a mercenary for reasons she kept to herself. Alora Fieldstone, a massive red valen with black horns and a body seven feet tall, kept the front line controlled. Last but certainly not least, Demora took care of scouting and sneaking as well as using her formidable psionic powers to intimidate those who Snappy did not charm. At last count, despite the team dissolving some years back, all former members were still alive except for Layla James, who died last year back in Moonfield hold among friends. She is survived by a daughter no one knew she had until her death, though the daughter's identity was verifiable. But that's a tale for another time.
By the time the team broke up, it was said that Demo could pick any lock on the continent. She is remembered for intimidating a Blue Lotus noble so badly during negotiations for their pay that the noble gave up more than was initially asked and threw in a griffon as well. She named it Velvet, for it was dark-feathered, and though it was older, it stayed with her many years in her solo career before it died a few years back. Demo is also known for surviving a fifty-foot freefall, for backstabbing an extra-planar demon before her party knew she was in place, and for breaking into an “impenetrable” vault, taking nothing, and leaving her signet ring with a note that said, “Thought this might be worth keeping in your vault. Kisses, Demo.” The vault’s owner was an ex-lover she had remained friends with. To his credit, he loved it, and often still shows the signet ring at parties while telling the tale. He then qualifies his initial claim, saying that the vault is impenetrable “to all but the world’s greatest thief.”
While any q'tari well into their thirties might want to retire, as that's getting old for them, it’s unclear why Demora took the role of professor for academy students. She almost certainly didn’t need the money, and rumor holds that she paid a massive amount to the academy rather than the other way around.
