The Glades of Sorrow

Where Death Screams

The Glades of Sorrow are a gloomy corner of the terrifying Blackwood. While devoid of monsters and other dangers of physical nature, it is haunted by the souls of the damned who were slain in the woods themselves during night time. Specters wander across the glades looking to bring down their fury upon any they would find. They are bound by the location of the glades, unable to go beyond the edges of the forest.   Corvusburg, the large town near the glade, has a few lumber camps that gather wood from the Blackwoods to supply Crowhaven with lumber to aid in building new infrastructure for the city. However, the ghostly apparitions often attack the lumberjacks, causing the camps to only function during day time when specters are dormant.

Geography

From the few maps that we have gathered of the area that surrounds the City State, we have managed to find a way to draw the surrounding Blackwoods in greater details than before. The Alpine Peaks were used to define where we would start, as the Glades of Sorrows, also known as The Forest of the Dead, lies at its feet and continues on north to become the Blackwoods.   Also to the Northeast lies Corvusburg, the town that resides on the border of Crowhaven between the city and the Blackwoods themselves.

Fauna & Flora

The Glades of Sorrow's fauna is all but missing. One could find traces of small animals once having lived in these parts of the woods, though now bones and large carcasses eaten by carrions are left behind. Monsters of the Blackwoods tend to try to wander further into the Glades to attempt and strike at Corvusburg from the rear, unprotected by Fort Corvus to the North, but their attempts are met with resistance by the ghosts of the dead rising at the invaders approach.   We do not know what kind of Flora has developped in such a place. Rumors of strange and ethereal herbs have been reported by weary witches and alchemists that dare to step into these glades and return, though if this is true, I have yet to have such a plant to confirm this claim.

Natural Resources

The Forest of the Dead hides many ressources that Crowhaven wishes to exploit, although the presence of the specters make it harder to gain from it. It is known that the lumber of the trees has great magical traits to them, having been exposed to the glacial and unnatural presence of the spirits that inhabit the woods. Such lumber is turned into many forms of utility, one of my favorites being a music box that plays whatever song it had heard before. Magic is such an interesting art! If only I knew more about it like the Astrals do.

The Forest is alive, and I will not find myself going deeper even if it means I lose my job for it!

The forest of the Dead? We are told to keep a watch on it, but with how our forces are spread thin, I am always worried the Beastmen will attack from the south...

Author's Notes

The Glades of Sorrows is inspired by all the great haunted forests we've read about. Hidding mysteries and dangers around every corner. Where the magics of the world corrupted the earth and twisted the land and those who fell in it.
