Maldonbeck

Ruled by the Magisters Guild, the city of Maldonbeck is the main bastion of civilization in the Maldonbeck Territories. One of each of the Magisters sits on the Council of Magisters: Opal, Ruby and Onyx. The three decide the course of the city affairs, assisted by their own individual councils. As the main trade hub between Figaro, Yevon and the Stolen Lands, Maldonbeck has earned a reputation of a safe harbor during the last attack by Sin where the Council kept it spawn from breaching the city while the Stormlords, the guards that protect the city, slew any spawn that reached land. As a result, immigration to Maldonbeck steadily grew as the Machina War escalated until the Magisters decreed entrance to the city would require a hefty fee, sharply reducing the number of refugees into the city. Many fled south to Fort Inevitable or the Foxwood while other made for the water, only to be devoured by the sinspawn lurking below.   Despite its checkered history, Maldonbeck supports the Academy, the largest magical guild in Ivalice. Those seeking to learn any type of magic seek their fortune within the walls, hoping to gain sponsorship to enter the Academy and learn from the sacred tomes kept within. The Academy fuels much of Maldonbeck's economy; magical components, paper and ink are always in constant demand in the city in addition to other trinkets and sundries that may draw the interest of a mage, aspiring or veteran.    Temples to Ramuh and Thaliak are the primary worshiping sites in the city, though several smaller shrines to other deities of magic and knowledge are present throughout. The Stormlords are fiercely devoted to Ramuh, protecting the city with sword and magic alike. Red mages fill many of their ranks, but they accept nearly any adventurer willing to devote themselves to Ramuh and the city of Maldonbeck.
