Children of the Storms
The people of the high mountains believe that during the winter the veil between our world and the world of the gods is at its thinest.
When storms rage, the thunder is their prisoners fighting to be free.
If a person dies during a storm, it is said that they have been taken to the prison to try and guard those who are trying to escape. They are remembered reverently for their role in keeping this world secure.
If a child is born when the lightning strikes, it is believed that their soul is split. One half is the person they were always meant to be, the other is believed to be part of an escaped prisoner. Such children are seen as constantly being at war within themselves.
The entire community must always be on their guard and look after these children extremely carefully, lest the evil half of them win.
