The Dark Gulf

A mountain range forms most of the boarder between the Human kingdoms and the beyond but at the southern end of the continent there is a gulf where the two sides of the continent try to peel away from each other.  No boats dare to cross this expanse of darkness, between the fog which stops you seeing the jagged outcroppings and towering pillars of rock and the rough waves that would never hesitate to smash you ship against them it is seen as too great a risk.  Children on both sides of this divide are warned not to do anywhere near the shore, the whether changes so quickly that visibility can lost in an instant and even the most experienced can lose their way. Often washing up again weeks or even months later, hardly identifiable as human or elf.
