Catacombs of Gathuram
Purpose / Function
Constructed to store dead bodies, but abandoned by humans after the dense amount of corpses created a society of undead within. Even after being neglected by humans, the undead continued to make new tunnels and hallways for hundreds of centuries, creating their own interconnected undead kingdom beneath the Iron Realm.
Denizens
All kinds of undead and spirits roam the catacombs, along with rodents, spiders and bats. Grand Larva are commonplace here too, found wriggling on floors; they are prey for Elder Webworms, big pale-orange leeches with a shell and eight green eyes lining its sides. Elder Webworms have only ever been found in the Catacombs of Gathuram and nowhere else.
Noteworthy
The Tormentor - an infamous skeleton among the undead residents for his unforgiving command over his skeletal servants. The Tormenter met an ironic end by his own weapon - a three-headed skull whip - when his minions revolted against his control. The Keeper - a Fallen, stuck in the deepest levels of the catacombs for many years. In her loneliness she had created Skull Digger using Forbidden Necromancy, which mutated her. Deathmother Orusis - Leader of an Undead religion for creating Life-Bound Fallen. Okvot - A friendly Fallen who runs a shop in the tunnels below Kohldur to help newly created Fallen survive. His words are said to be graceful and caring. Tenvon - A grumpy Fallen who runs a blacksmith in the tunnels below Kohldur. He seldom speaks, but when he does it's usually never anything nice. Happins - A nervous Fallen wearing a set of antique Pure-Iron armour. Once a warrior of the Iron Realm, he was slain and returned as a frightened shell of his former self, realising he had become who he feared. The Keeper gave him trouble when she had escaped the catacombs.Architecture
The Catacombs of Gathuram are a seemingly endless network of underground tunnels, crypts, and dungeons spanning all across the Iron Realm. It is considered the largest underground structure in Epidotra, having many interlinking tunnels and hallways, there are many entrances that lead to them, the main entrance being in Kohldor. Under the Olden Ruins is where the catacombs are the most dense and complex.
The catacombs themselves have many levels, the first few contain the most Undead. Millions of Lost Souls roam the catacombs in search of a worthy vessel. Even deeper is the flooded floors, and there are a fewer amount of Undead that wander the halls. Many rooms have broken floors; falling down them will make you fall for more than a minute. Those gaps lead to the lowest level of the catacombs.
In the lowest level of the catacombs, the floor is littered with broken bones and puddles of water. Dim blue lights often were visible in this level. Nothing in this level is alive, so if any were to survive the fall, they would be alone forever.
History
