Great Eras & Resets
Epidotra is the world of a Great Era, a span of time reaching millions of years and sometimes beyond. Within a Great Era is the lifetime of the world, and once it comes to an end, the Great Reset begins.
The Great Reset starts with a wave of cosmic plasma spreading across the thermosphere, raining down and sinking to the very core of the world so that no life may survive. Entities bound to the world - Gods and
Demigods - are also destroyed as the planet enters a state of cleansing. Earth, water, air, all things morph and shape as it takes a new form for a new world. All things to live within the bounds of the world are trapped, escape via space is impossible due to the invisible barrier that encompasses the thermosphere's edge. To live is to have a soul, and to have a soul is to be a child of the world - affected by the barrier's force.
Gods
With every Great Era brings a new God to shape and observe the world. Some lend their help frequently while others look on in silence. For Epidotra's God, they are the latter.
A God is an entity immovable, one that does not conform to death lest it be the end of the Great Era. They cannot die by any means, they cannot be erased, and they cannot erase on their own accord. Creation is their purpose after all - not destruction.
At the end of a Great Reset and beginning of a new Great Era, the God constructs a number of Demigods as the holders of balance. Rules of the world and Demigods are, too, put in place by God. In the Great Era prior to Epidotra's, Demigods were weaker in comparison, but had ten lives as apposed to five.
Although the Demigods are created by God, they are not a part of God. Occasionally, a Fragment will be sent down to the world as a manifestation to learn and experience aspects of the world as their own entity - afterwards returning to become one with God and sharing their memories and experiences. From the beginning till the Platinum Age, there has been only two Fragments of God. One was a
girl who experienced the harshest of sadness and pain ever perceived by a living being; the other,
Doppel, was a boy who would come to reject the notion of returning to God and continue his own life for the goal of undoing the negative emotions of the previous Fragment.
Any information on who the First God was is unknown, but it is assumed they created the Great Resets to hold back the instability that plagued the world. Based on the idea that they also constructed the concept of a God for each Great Era - thus "creating" Gods - it can be assumed they were on a higher level of existence, for a God cannot create a God.
