Sandskin Spider
Basic Information
Anatomy
These spiders are small in size, typically measuring only a few centimeters in length, and have a distinctive sand-colored exoskeleton that allows them to blend in seamlessly with their arid surroundings. The exoskeleton is highly resistant to water loss, allowing them to conserve moisture in their bodies even in the dry desert air.
Ecology and Habitats
Sandskin Spiders are arachnids that are specifically adapted to life in desert environments, such as those found in the domains of Thamor and Erellon.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They are primarily active at night when other small insects come out to feed, using their keen senses and agility to hunt down their prey. Sandskin Spiders are opportunistic hunters, and they will eat a variety of small insects that are found in desert environments, such as beetles, moths, and flies.
Behaviour
During the hot daytime hours, when the desert sun is at its most intense, Sandskin Spiders will often burrow into the sand to protect themselves from the heat. Using their specialized legs, which are covered in dense hairs and spines, they are able to dig deep into the sand quickly and efficiently. Once buried, they will remain in their sandy hideaway until the cooler temperatures of the evening return.
