Sunwing Snake
"What kind of sick joke is this!? Snakes are bad enough slithering on the ground, now we have to deal with them in the sky too!?"
- The first person to discover Sunwing Snakes
Basic Information
Anatomy
These snakes have vibrant yellow scales and a pair of amber wings attached to their body, helping them navigate the skies with grace. Unlike typical serpents, they have evolved to use the wind to their advantage, allowing them to glide effortlessly through the air, almost as if they were dancing among the clouds.
Ecology and Habitats
The rugged mountains and deep canyons of Erellon offer ample opportunities to catch the strong gusts of wind, enabling them to glide from one peak to another or navigate through narrow passages. The sandstorms that whip through the region only serve to invigorate them, adding to their mastery of the wind.
Once found throughout all the countries surrounding the Serpent Hills, the Sunwing Snakes' abundance became their undoing. Their sheer numbers, coupled with their gliding abilities, brought them into conflict with the local populations. As the snakes multiplied, they became a nuisance and caused chaos in their search for food. The creatures quickly turned into pests, and the people living around the Serpent Hills saw no choice but to take drastic measures.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Sunwing Snake's eggs are considered a rare delicacy among various cultures in the surrounding regions. Erellic, Jerzillian, and Thellic folk have long held a fascination with the eggs, believing them to possess mystical properties. This has led to the unfortunate consequence of excessive egg poaching, threatening the population of these creatures.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Before the Silver Age they were distributed all across the mountains and canyons of Serpent Peak, Maxroth, Olgod Var, and Greenmeadow. Humans hunted them for being a nuisance until their habitat shrank to become only the Serpent Hills - Erellon.
Civilization and Culture
History
In a desperate attempt to deal with these snakes, the various countries united and launched an extermination campaign against them. This decision led to a significant decline in their population, pushing them to the brink of extinction. After the Silver Age, only a few of these remarkable yet annoying creatures remain, finding refuge in the most remote and inaccessible parts of the Serpent Hills.
