So when he was in search of a place to set up shop he found an rundown diner long since forgotten by time and decided to set up shop, not to mention the property was cheap making it a win win situation.

Architecture

Outside

The place looks like a pre-war diner that has been refurbished and restored diner as if nothing ever happened to it. With a shiny metal plating covering the outside with glowing neon signs to get people to come right on in. The diner of course has been modified having been extended to get more people to come right in. But what few people don't realize was that the windows are bullet proof and the metal plating is a few inches thick to keep bullets from getting in.

Inside

Much of the furniture and the paint used has been restored to look like an old fashion diner, expect with some southern charm to it. The walls are made of wood and it is covered with memorabilia of southern life before the war. Often photos and items that have managed to be scavenged and bartered to add the feel of it.

Basement

An old concrete basement used for storage under the diner has been renovated to become an armory and meeting place

History

Restoring What was Lost

Founded in 2050 after Dirk showed up in New York in Manhattan in the Upper West Side when he was sick and tired of working as a corporate food packer which was considered a poor excuse of food by him. After finding his diner and remodeling it he got to the idea of bring back old fashion cooking from the south that his parents learned in New Orleans before the war and taught him when relocated to Tennessee once the conflicted was over. So he went to work with what ever he could find to make the recipes that his parents taught him. This was no easy task as most ingredients and in the south no longer existed as the region could no longer support it. But after a few loans from some loan sharks since the banks wouldn't loan him anything, he managed to grow his ingredients around the abandoned buildings that surrounded his diner and converted them into green houses and holding pens. Once after a lot of backroom deals and living off microwave noodles he managed to get his business going and the spirit of the south seemed to been brought back to life in New York City of all places. Soon everyone knew where to go if they wanted to eat some real food and Dirk's diner was the place to be.

A Taste of the Past

Dirk's diner was something the city had not seen in many decades since the corporations kicked out the small time recusants and diners after the war ended and people were loving it. It brought back a lot of memories of what things use to be before the war, sure they weren't perfect, but at least they had values worth holding onto. This would be the beginning of the American Restoration that would spread all throughout the city as the people wanted to bring back the ideas of the American Dream that once brought millions of people to find a better life from themselves. It would all start here at Dirk's diner as people wanted to have small time business that had value rather then everything owned by corporations that cared only for the profits. Dirk would paly his own part of the restoration as well as he gathered liked mined chef like him to make their own dining establishments and his diner would be their base of operations during those days. Things were going good as more and more people began following Dirk and restaurants and diners began springing up all across the boroughs. But this would not last for long though as the corporations saw the threat Dirk posed for them.

The Headquarters

Out of the blue one day, Dirk almost lost his life to a drive by outside of his diner, though it he survived his friends and associate, Tony Gelati did not. The blame was pinned on the corporations in the area as Dirk was considered the real target of the attack. This would lead to the infamous Dining Wars and Dirk would fortify his diner to withstand a small army and would be the base of operations for the conflict. This would not a small scale conflict as people were rallying behind Dirk and others involved in the American Restoration to take back the streets that was their home. An armory and a command post were created under the diner to prepare for the war to come. Many attempts were made on the diner, but all were repelled and after many months bloodshed and destructions many corporations decided to cut their losses and left. Making New York City a mostly corporate free city and Dirk went back to business like he once did.

Current State

Dirk's diner has been flourishing for many years and had expanded his diner to bring more people into it. It has over four dozen employees and the food has never been better. Dirk himself has become a proud example that the American Dream was not yet dead and he is living comfortably and takes care of his employees. His diner has become something of a legend in the boroughs now is considered sacred ground that should new be desecrated. If it ever was, they would find themselves someplace between being at the bottom of the Hudson River to being feed to one of the many pigs that Dirk uses for his dishes.

Tourism

Due to it being in Manhattan much of its customers from there to dine on the southern cuisine made here. That does not mean that people from the other four boroughs do travel all the way down their to eat their too. Here they experience what good old fashion food tastes like that their grand parents ate before the war. Not to mention southern food is considered a rare delicacy as well since much of the deep south is irradiated from nuclear blasts and chemical spills from the Caribbean and most people fled to escape it, making something of rarely find in this day and age.
