Unity Station
A grand piece of classical architecture still standing in the middle of Era, a reminder of the past in a world that is constantly changing, a place that's still trying to move on from the past while blending the traditions that are so near and dear to many. This, the Unity Station, is a reminder to many that the past can be beautiful. A reminder that while we are all distinct, we are all unified in our efforts to improve the world. It is a reminder of the fiery trials the nation and the leaders thereof have had to face. Why, in those very tunnels, a dejected Mythos lived and grew, bursting forth to remind everyone that the past has ramifications if we ignore it. That very building was the source of many a rebellion, from the Construction Riots to Josiah Sandoval's failed Coronation, it's all happened at or about this building. And what a wonder it is, from the intricately carved detailing of the wall accents, to the blending of modern and classical lighting and painting techniques, to the marble stairs at the entrance, and the carved look of the outside stonework. It's all a wonderful reminder that unity is possible.
Purpose / Function
Originally built as the banishing point for the members of the Underground, it was also the exiting point of the Underground for thousands of refugees. As the station was slowly refurnished and rebuilt, so too were the relationships of a now forcefully united nation. And it was all their choice to unify, and they did, just as the station was finished, making a reminder of the unity accomplished by the people. A fragile unity that needed strengthened, but a unity nonetheless.
Alterations
In 1120 to 1123, the Unity Station was rebuilt and refurnished to re-establish the tunnels between the two realms and begin the process of building stronger trust and relations between the people, as well as giving the Aboveground a chance to see the Underground, and the beauty of the steampunk influences down below.
Architecture
The style of the outer architecture is akin to the Art Deco style of Earth's 1920s, with carved blocks of brick/stone, and lights hidden in the alcoves.
History
In the years after it was built, and the final wave of Undergrounders were gone from above, the tunnels were closed off. The building slowly fell into ruin, the foundations and stonework beginning to crumble, the windows cracked and broken, a few shattered as teenagers invaded, exploring the closed off tunnels and spooking each other into believing in the old myths. But then the Undergrounders emerged, asking for refuge. At long last, the caves had begun to crumble and a single explosive close to ending thousands of lives. As Emperor Jordan Kand and Empress Alli Worthingwood Kand were given the ruling seats, they made significant efforts to restablish the unity between the two lands, and began efforts to rebuild it, finally completing it in 1123 RA.
Tourism
When it was closed down, urban explorers and unruly teenagers were the only ones who visited this place, but when it reopened, everyone visited, as it was the main entrance to the Underground Capital, as well as having beautiful rooms to rent for private events. It has seen many tourists come and go, and has stood the test of time.
